A little bit about us

Welcome

This blog site is about two ageing hippies who have found love, and are now going to be spending their days travelling around Europe in search of good food, music, and places of beauty. More than that, it is a food, music and travel blog all rolled into one!

Our van is called Old Red and was a Fire Services Support Vehicle. She will have our bed, boudoir, kitchen and a few mod cons inside to help us on the way.

So, to start at the beginning of our adventure. We decided it is time to get a little more out of life. We are both passionate about food and music so have decided to find out what Europe has to offer. We think a great way to do this is in a Campervan. We began by buying Old Red.

In the meantime, we have, of course, been travelling and would like to tell you about some places we will be revisiting when Old Red is ready to rock and roll.

Over the last few months, we ripped her interior out and started our rebuild. We will post blogs about our progress as we go along.

So welcome to our blogsite. Over the next few weeks, we will add stories of our travels to date, tips, views, recommendations etc. We will also update you on how the rebuild of Old Red progresses.

About old Red – the Journey so far

It’s almost a year since we bought Old Red, and time to look at new insurance and MOT already. The work to turn her into a campervan is ongoing and has been hit by various delays none least COVID 19.

However, we started by stripping out the floor, bulkhead, and panelling. After a good clean we started to evaluate what was needed to convert her. We sold the bulkhead on eBay and put the money towards windows. We bought one side window and two rear door windows. We installed the large side window immediately and then started to think about flooring and furniture.

We didn’t realise until too late that because the van is high roofed, the doors are non-standard. This meant that the windows would not fit. It was too late to return them, so they had to be sold on eBay for a reduced price. Looking at buying windows for non-standard doors, is expensive. So, we have decided to leave the back doors alone for the moment.

We then got to work on the furniture. We are both quite tall so needed the bed to be lengthways.  The van is an SWB so we designed the bed as extendable, to enable us to have a bit of space when not sleeping. (see pics below). The panelling is from a stall at a food expo we went to. The stallholder heard us talking and offered us the hoardings when they had finished with them.

Next comes the Skylights, completion of the wiring and a ceiling. Once all that’s done, some finishing and soft furnishings and we can be off!

Welcome to our blog

We decided to start this blog for many reasons. I’ve done a lot of travelling in my lifetime and Debi has done a fair bit also. We decided to combine our favourite pastimes and take them on the road.
