Debi and I met on the Radio! Well, that’s what I like to tell anybody who asks. I was on Planet Rock Dating site and Debi was on another dating site. Little did we know that they are all interlinked. I am eternally grateful for that and for the fact that Debi extended the radius of her search. That was nearly 5 years ago at time of writing. Since then we have laughed and cried together, mainly the former. We just seem to fit together like a jigsaw. We have had and are still having a great time.

We decided to start this blog for many reasons. I’ve done a lot of travelling in my lifetime and Debi has done a fair bit also. So, after I was diagnosed, we decided to combine our favourite pastimes and take them on the road. Debi has done a lot of Caravanning in years gone by, but I didn’t fancy towing. It would be difficult to get to some of the places we wished to explore carting an extra 16ft of metal behind us. We also love cooking, entertaining and music. We decided to compromise on the caravan and channel Debi‘s experience to a different mode of transport. We found out that buying a Campervan was way out of our budget, so we decided to build one.  We bought a high roofed ten-year-old Bright Red Renault Trafic and promptly called her Old Red.

The building of Old Red is ongoing, and we have dedicated a page to the conversion. We want to combine our passions into our travels. Red will be fitted out like an American Diner and Debi has a tent that will attach to the side of the van for more space. American Diner, why you may ask? Simply because we have these hoardings that were kindly donated to us for a supper club we were going to host. Our madcap idea is threefold: firstly, to set up our diner wherever we feel is a good place to entertain. Secondly, to search out “Hidden Gems”. Restaurants and music venues that you wouldn’t normally come across. And thirdly, to boldly go where no red campervan has been before; But all that is for the future, the near future.

This Blog will consist of many things. Firstly, it will be our diary in travel guide format. We will take you where we have been and tell you where we are going next. There will be many offshoots to this. Mainly discovering niche restaurants, cafes, and hamlets. Following our passion for food and entertainment, we will be looking out for music also. These may be in the form of Festivals, Jazz clubs, Buskers or Cabaret. We’ll search them out and share them with you. We wish to spend a lot of time on the road, so we will show ways of making money whilst travelling. Please have a look around, we are sure you will find something here to spike your interest.
